Personal Brand Pitfalls

Time and time again we see people making common mistakes when building their personal brand. So take a couple of minutes to read through and set yourself up for personal brand success whatever stage you are at



Pitfall one: Your personal brand is a one-and-done job

A personal brand is not a task you simply complete then walk away. It's an evolutionary process, reflecting on the twists and turns of your career, your business, your work. Get your personal brand going but keep coming back to it and revisiting regularly to check in and make sure the work still aligns with where you are at currently.


Pitfall two: Not aligning your personal brand with your future-self

Your personal brand should not only reflect what you do currently but it needs to lean towards your career aspirations. Be sure to bring in some language that connects with your aspirations. Whether that is a small thread of what you currently do or by simply articulating your career mission which can include what you are trying to do/achieve.


Pitfall three: Waiting for perfection

You might not feel that you're quite ready to formally work on your personal brand, but the key thing is to start before you are ready. Moreover, don't pause until you can build out a full website or completely overhaul your LinkedIn. Start by doing something - create a website home page with your bio and some contact details or just update your header on LinkedIn. That can be enough to move things in the right direction. Remember, it's a work in progress..
